Triumph

When I was growing up in my teen years, the Canadian Rock Group Triumph was one of my all time favourite bands.

In fact, when they came out with this song, I would get on the piano and have my sister Angela  sing the main vocals as I would play the piano part. I felt so cool to play music with her. As she is my big sister, and would always think to myself, 'she's so cool.

In five days, I shall be driving up to Edmonton where my sister lives, to take her to see Triumph's  Concert at their Rexall Center. Reliving our teenage years!

Years ago, I had the privilege of recording with a hard rock singer, Lance Younger, who was being  produced by Mark Barry (of 'Won't You Take Me To Funky Town' Fame) at  Metal Works Recording Studio in Toronto, Ontario. The studio owned by Triumph's drummer Gil Moore.

It was such an incredible honour to record there.

As a pianist, it got better.

I walked into the studio where I saw a beautiful black grand piano. I could not believe I'd be recording on this piano!

Especially, since my other musical rock piano idol, Gowan (now lead singer of Styx), had just recorded there recently!!

I was getting to play in a dream recording studio, owned by one of my idols Gil Moore of Triumph, recording on Gowan's piano!!! That was fun.

I was recently reflecting on why I like Triumph so much.

I believe it's because they let the music speaks for itself.

They are three guys, who all contribute to the bands success. From equal song writing credits to equal performance.

No glam. Just pure great music.

In this video, I am trying to duplicate an outstanding rock band creating a piano part. I must admit, definitely challenging!
